Along with the top 5 places we visited and the top 5 experiences we had in Asia, we wanted to document the top 5 places we wished we had spent more time. Most of these places we had not planned on going to initially, or that we had low expectations for. Next time we are in Asia, we’ll make sure we go back; if you are in Asia, make sure to spend a few extra days here!

Number 5: Xian, China

OK, the only reason this is on here is because we left China early to go to Ko Samui. We really wanted to go to the Mt. Huashan temple while we were here, so this is one regret. I doubt we would stay here much longer than an extra day or two, though.

Number 4: Ko Samui, Thailand

I would like to think we could have stayed in Ko Samui indefinitely. The sand was white, the water was clear, and the accomodations were great. As I mentioned in the Top 5 Places, we hit this at the right place and the right time, but it was a perfect few days for us that we would love to have more of.

Number 3: Hong Kong, China

We really liked Hong Kong – it struck us as a city with as many different experiences as there were people. We only had three days, and while we got a general overview of the city, there were many things to do outside of the city, including hikes on the surrounding islands. Plus I’m sure there are many surprises to be found in the local restaurants and shops in each part of town.

Number 2: Kampot, Cambodia

Kampot was a place we had never heard of until arriving in Cambodia. Our friends that lived in Phnom Penh recommended going there vs. the beaches of Sihanoukville to relax, and we are happy we took them up that. There are some really relaxing hotels set along the river where you could really escape the city and relax. Plus, there was some amazing expat food in town, including the best ribs we have ever had.

Number 1: Tiger Leaping Gorge, China

TLG was incredible both in terms of size and beauty. Most people spend at least 2 additional days hiking around the peak, and then heading into the canyon. We could have easily spent several more days on this hike, taking our time and staying in the many guesthouses lining the canyon. Also, we would go back during the summer, as it was too cold in the winter, which is the main reason we only went for one day in the first place.
